ANIMAL ASSISTED THERAPY
When deemed appropriate and with the client’s permission, I offer animal assisted therapy (AAT) as an added modality to our psychotherapy sessions. During AAT sessions, Gracie and I work together to create a safe and positive environment. Gracie’s presence can help a client feel more relaxed and open to sharing their feelings and thoughts. Interacting with a trained AAT dog like Gracie can reduce stress and promote emotional regulation.
Therapy sessions that include AAT can involve activities like petting or grooming, playing, or simply enjoying the company of an attuned animal. These interactions can have a calming effect and provide a sense of companionship, which can be particularly beneficial for people who feel anxious, disconnected or having difficulties with verbal communication. Gracie’s training has prepared her to be a supportive partner in the therapeutic process, assisting in improving social skills, boosting self-esteem, and promoting emotional well-being.
